How the course runs

  • Weekly units. A new unit of videos and exercises opens each week for six weeks. You work through it whenever suits you during that week.
  • A project. You apply what you have learned to a project alongside the weekly units.
  • Your questions answered. Ask a question at any time, by email or in the course forum. A CPTED expert replies by email or with a short recorded response.
  • A live clinic in week 6. In the final week there is a live online clinic where participants bring a real site or project to discuss. The date and times are confirmed during the course.
  • Built around professional life.  You can join up to three weeks after the start date and catch up at your own pace. If work intervenes, ask us for an extension. We understand the demands of professional work and are flexible about finishing dates.

Your Certificate of ICA-approved CPTED Training

This is an assessed course. A Certificate of successful completion of ICA-approved Class-A CPTED Training requires a mark of 70% or more, and we support participants to achieve that. The certificate is issued by the Design Out Crime and CPTED Centre, and is the evidence of Class-A CPTED training for you to present to ICA when applying for ICA CPTED Practitioner certification. You can add your certificate to your LinkedIn profile directly from the course.

The ICA CPTED Practitioner pathway

This training is the training component of the ICA CPTED Practitioner qualification. Completing it meets the training requirement directly, in place of the portfolio record of training that candidates would otherwise spend several years compiling.

To gain the qualification, candidates also complete an independent CPTED project and an exam or online viva review with ICA. The training provides these eight ICA unit competencies:

  • Unit 1: Define the scope of the task
  • Unit 2: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Unit 3: Undertake research in the nominated environment
  • Unit 4: Read and interpret plans and drawings
  • Unit 7: Analyze and assess conditions
  • Unit 8: Compile written report
  • Unit 9: Assess CPTED options
  • Unit 12: Prepare crime prevention plan

ICA CPTED Professional certification requires three further competencies and documented practical experience beyond this training. Full certification requirements and application procedures are on the International CPTED Association website.

After the course

Everyone who passes receives lifetime access to the current version of the course. The material is updated as research and practice change, so you can return to it whenever you need to refresh your knowledge. You also keep access to the course you took, with your marks and certificate.

  • AU$895 per person, plus GST where applicable.
  • Individuals pay by credit or debit card when registering.
  • Organisations can register staff by purchase order and invoice. See CPTED training for organisations.
  • 12% discount for 5 or more participants from the same organisation on the same course.
